Boxing Alberta’s Annual
General Meeting May 6 & 7 is an important date on the busy calendar of events.
You may feel this a free weekend with no
competitions and a time to rest; however these meeting are integral to insure
the smooth operation of Boxing Alberta. There are some board positions up
for election and new faces are always welcome. As president, I encourage
everyone to attend and consider letting your name stand for a board position.
These
positions are all volunteer positions and it takes time and dedication to have a
successful Association. I look forward to seeing you all at the
AGM and Awards Banquet.
Tom Daly, President
Ted and Walter were two of Alberta’s biggest boxing fans.
Their entire adult lives, Ted and Walter discussed boxing history and went to
all the boxing shows they could during the season. They loved both amateur
and professional shows and agreed that whoever died first, he would try to come
back and tell the other if there was boxing in heaven.
One summer night, Ted passed away in his sleep. He had just seen a movie he
wanted to see for a while ‘Cinderella Man’ and he died happy. A few nights
later, his buddy Walter was awoken to the sound of Ted’s voice from beyond.
"Ted, Is that you?" Walter asked.
"Of course it me," Ted replied.
"This is unbelievable!" Walter exclaimed. "So tell me, is there boxing in
heaven?"
"Well, I have some good news and some bad news for you. Which do you want to
hear first?"
"Tell me the good news first."
"Well, the good news is that yes there is boxing in heaven and it’s great,
Walter. All the old boxing legends are here, Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, there’s a
boxing show every night.”
"Oh, that is wonderful! So what could possibly be the bad news?" asked Walter.
"You're boxing James J. Braddock tomorrow night." Ted answered.
