International Tournament

West Pembina’s, Arash Usmanee, was victorious in La Romana, Dominican Republic, October 14-16, 2006.  Arash had 3 tough bouts, defeating two strong Dominicans in the preliminaries before walking away with the gold medal. In the gold medal bout, Arash defeated the Puerto Rican champion, Daniel Rosario (19-7).  Congratulations Arash on a great start to a successful season.

Western Canadian Championships

A little closer to home Boxing Alberta’s Western Canadian Team returned from Whitehorse, Yukon after competing in the test competition for the 2007 Canada Winter Games.  Bringing home the Gold were Blake Anderson, Alex Rose, and Angus McNeilly, while Rob Cusine, Mellad Rahimee, Jeremy Girard, and Estaban Cruz earned Silver. Cam O’Connell and Robert Sherman had no bouts. Team Alberta competed very well: great job men. 

 Sub-Novice Tournament

Remembrance Day will also be remembered for the first ever, Boxing Alberta Sub-Novice Tournament.  Boxers from Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Yukon competed in 3 cards in this 2 day tournament. There were over 40 bouts and these athletes have some great experience to take forward to the Bronze Gloves later this month.  Director of Competition - Jim Titley, did an enormous job coordinating this event. Registrations

Please avoid delay for the upcoming boxing season and get your 2007 registrations in now.  2007 promises to be a very busy year and the turn around from Ottawa can be a couple of weeks.  Boxing Alberta will not allow any boxer to compete if they do not have a Passbook with the 2007 registration.  Remember to keep a current picture of the athlete and their annual medical in the book as well.

Sincerest Condolences

The Board of Directors and Boxing Alberta membership send their sympathies to Jim Titley and family.  Jim’s brother, Robert, passed away November 13 at his home in Alberta Beach.  There will be a private family service.
