Agenda

Motions Received

The following motions were submitted at least 30 days prior to the AGM and will be voted on:

  • If a Registered club of Boxing Alberta has a confirmed Doctor, venue, and officials with no conflicting tournament date, be granted multiple sanctions.
  • No two members from the same club or club address can be on the board at the same time.
  • All athletes must be registered with Boxing Canada for 3 months before they may participate in any Boxing Alberta sanctioned event.
  • All athletes must be registered with a club and not as an independent
  • A $50 rush fee for late registration renewals. Any renewal coming after January 31st, of the current registration, year is subject to a $50 rush fee. For example, a renewal sent in on April 30, 2024 will be subject to a rush fee.

Ratification

The Board of Directors adopted a definition of a club for our Policy’s and Procedures. As per our Bylaws, this must now be voted on by the general membership at the AGM to be continued for future years. See the detailed definition below:

Voting Procedures

All voting will be completed through email. Detailed instructions will be sent out to all members and clubs who hold votes, and an independent third party will be on site to verify all results.


Board Positions Available

We are looking for volunteers to fill some board positions! Candidates should expect to attend monthly (or bi-monthly) meetings via Zoom (typically Sunday nights). Computer skills, problem solving skills, public speaking, and conflict management skills are all an asset for these positions. Please only volunteer if you are willing to put the time in to help make our association better. If you would like to help but cannot commit to a long-term position, please consider volunteering for a committee or special project instead.

Provincial Tournaments

Tournament bids must be received by Scott at the office in advance of our AGM meeting. Here is the tournament bid form that must be completed to enter your bid for a provincial tournament. All information must be completed on the form to make a bid for a tournament. The cost to sanction a tournaments is $500.

**Junior and Youth Provincials will be held at one of the tournaments in 2025, date TBD when Boxing Canada announces the Youth Nationals Dates

Awards

We have a number of provincial awards to recognize outstanding achievements and dedication to the sport of boxing! Please see the list and descriptions below. If you would like to submit a candidates name to our awards committee please send a one page (max) letter to Scott outlining who you are nominating and why. Nominations must be received no later than Monday May 13th at noon.


  • Gordon Russell Wind Spirit Award: Awarded to the Boxing Alberta member who has given outstanding time and effort in helping indigenous or under privileged youth, assisting them in achieving their potential

  • Lawrence Duperron Ringmaster Award: Awarded to the Boxing Alberta member who has unselfishly given them self, in a supporting role, to help amateur boxing in Alberta

  • Larry Fleming Winning Achievement Award: Awarded to the club with the highest number of Gold medals competiting at the Alberta Provincial Championship (if there is a tie, the greater number of silver medals will determine the winning club)

  • Boxing Alberta’s Above and Beyond Award: This award is presented to a long time member who continues to support and work towards building amateur boxing in Alberta
