Coaches are the primary drivers of a boxing program. They mentor, promote healthy attitudes towards fitness, and develop confidence & responsibility in their athletes.

In all competition in Alberta, boxers must have a Registered and Certified boxing coach in their corner.

The following document shows the coaches who have met all of the certification and registration requirements and are eligible to corner athletes.

HOW DO I BECOME A BOXING COACH?

There are a number of elements and evaluations to complete your certification.

Many of these items can be worked on simultaneously, and we encourage you to start learning today!

Create an NCCP Account

Step one of your coaching journey will be creating a free online account with the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). This is where all of your coaching courses, status, and programs will be tracked by Boxing Canada.

Complete Required Courses

Each coaching level has required online and in-person courses. All of the courses are found through your NCCP log-in by accessing the ‘calendar’ tab. These courses can be completed in any order, so we encourage you to start working through them as soon as possible.

Please see the link below to access the required courses as per Boxing Canada

Register as a Coach

Yearly Boxing Canada registration is required for all coaches and costs $100. Click here to register.

CR-VS Background Check

All coaches must have a criminal background check, including vulnerable sector (CR-VS). These are valid for 5 years time, and you will need to request one through your local police authority. A letter from Boxing Alberta will be needed to verify that you are a coach in the province. Please fill out the form below and we will get you the required letter within 2 business days. Coaches must be 18 years old to request a CR-VS.

    Complete Your Evaluation

After you have taken your in-person coaching course you can request to be evaluated from Boxing Canada. This has a fee that is paid directly to Boxing Canada, and involves a number of steps in the evaluation. All of the instructions are sent to the applicant once Boxing Canada processes the request. You will need to have your Boxing Canada registration complete before you can request your evaluation.

    Coach Certification

There are three levels of coaching currently offered by Boxing Canada (see below). To be eligible to corner an athlete in Alberta, a coach must be at minimum Instructor of Beginner Certified.

If you have started the certification process but are missing some components, your status will be ‘trained’. This level is not sufficient to corner athletes as you must be fully ‘certified’. This means you would need to complete and pass the Boxing Canada Evaluation

All levels of coaching require courses from the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). Coaches will need to create an account to register and access these courses.

To do this, go to coach.ca

Click ‘the locker’ (top righthand corner)

Sign in and then there is access to your personal profile
